An Alien’s Desperation

An Alien’s Desperation

Wednesday 4/10, 7pm, Free

Sophy Chang’s installation and performance project, ‘An Alien’s Desperation,’ is inspired by the sense of alienation⋆˚༎ຶ⋆. and fear experienced in New York City when viral anger targeted ◎Asians during the COVID-19 pandemic ✺.

These experiences led her, as an Asian, to question whether she is regarded as fundamentally the same as other humans. They intensified the fear of being labeled “the other” and living in this disharmonious worldஇ as a human, eventually giving birth to a clownish alien.

The clownish alien desperately performs, stamping around with its loud෴ shoes, reaching out for love, pushing the audience away with spiked creatures✧, looking for closeness, and scaring them with its wandつ─☆*.
